The highly creative and unique style of Marilyn Hugh Phillis tends toward abstract utilizing layering techniques and often incorporates collage. She will share her techniques and her process by beginning each day with warm-up exercises – getting progressively more complicated each day. This provides a fun challenge towards the mood for the day. She will also lecture and show slides to demonstrate her techniques along with constructive critiques to aid the students’ artistic growth.

This workshop is sponsored by the Watercolor Society of Alabama in conjunction with its 69th Annual Exhibition.

To secure reservation, mail your reservation fee of $200.00 payable to Watercolor Society of Alabama along with your name and contact information. Reservations will be accepted on a first come basis. The registration fee (less a $25.00 processing fee) is refundable until April 15, 2010.

An American wigeon painted in acrylic by David Nix of Cottondale, Ala., is the winner of the 2010 Alabama Waterfowl Stamp Art Contest. The winning artwork will adorn the 2011-2012 Alabama Waterfowl Stamp. Nix also won the 2006 contest with a painting of a blue-winged teal.

The annual contest, sponsored by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division (WFF), is open to all resident Alabama artists only.
