Artist Statement The heart of my imagery has always been figurative, enlisting females from mythology, history and current events. The Queen of Hearts has played a major role, as have Eve and a number of Greek goddesses. For a while I returned to my college days and dabbled in abstraction, but the pull of the figure has manifested itself once again, and I guess it will stay this time. The focus of my work at the moment is combining the non-objective with the figure using Solarplate™. The background plates are printed many times on a very transparent Japanese paper to produce many layers of imagery before the text and figurative plates are over-printed. Once the imagery is complete it is then chine collé to Western Printmaking paper. Hiding visual surprises, double entendres in titles to give hints of my intent, together with a passion for handmade and printed papers, and experimentation, are all important parts of my images. Hardly any thing I do is simple and straight forward. It starts out that way, but always ends up to be layers upon layers of meaning, color, shape and form before I’m able to declare it complete. Gallery representation includes Print Arts Northwest in Portland and North Bank Gallery in Vancouver, WA., and Montage Gallery in Baltimore, MD
